ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has officially recognized the intra-party elections conducted by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Parliamentarians (PTI-P) on Tuesday.
In accordance with the notification issued by ECP, Mahmood Khan has been designated as the chairman, while Malik Afzal Din Khan has been appointed as the vice chairman of PTI-Parliamentarians.
These internal party elections were convened to address the vacant positions following the departure of Pervez Khattak from the chairmanship. Pervez Khattak relinquished his position as the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf – Parliamentarians (PTI-P) after he failed to secure his seat in the February 8 general elections.
It’s noteworthy that Pervez Khattak, a former KP Minister, had previously been associated with PTI. However, last year, he opted to part ways with the party, establishing his political entity named PTI – Parliamentarians.
Similarly, Mahmood Khan, the former Chief Minister of KP, also severed ties with PTI, joining forces with Pervez Khattak’s PTI-P, along with 57 other former members of PTI.
This recognition by the Election Commission affirms the legitimacy of the intra-party elections conducted by PTI-P, providing clarity on the leadership structure within the party.
