Donald Lu: U.S. enjoys deeper ties with Shahbaz Sharif’s government

In an interview, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, Donald Lu, expressed his optimism regarding Pakistan’s ongoing economic recovery.

“We are greatly encouraged by the economic recovery Pakistan is undergoing,” he stated, highlighting the progress the country is making.

Lu shared insights from his recent meeting with Pakistan’s Finance Minister, Aurangzeb, where they discussed key economic plans and necessary reforms.

“These reforms are not easy, but they are crucial for Pakistan’s future,” he remarked, emphasizing that successful implementation of these initiatives is vital for stabilizing the economy. He noted that such stability would ultimately benefit all segments of society, particularly the youth.

In addition to economic discussions, Lu addressed security cooperation, reaffirming U.S. support for Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts.

“We are working alongside Pakistan’s military and government in their fight against terrorism,” he stated, underscoring the collaborative approach both nations are taking in enhancing security.

Lu also emphasized the United States’ commitment to Pakistan’s overall success. “The U.S. wants Pakistan to thrive and succeed,” he said, reiterating the importance of the bilateral relationship.

He characterized the ties between the U.S. and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s government as strong, highlighting the deep connection the U.S. has with the people of Pakistan.

Overall, Lu’s statements reflect a positive outlook on U.S.-Pakistan relations, particularly in the realms of economic reform and security collaboration. His comments suggest a commitment to supporting Pakistan as it navigates its challenges and works toward a stable future.
