JUI-F, JI boycott presidential election

Meanwhile, some political parties abstained from participating in the presidential election. Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) and Jamaat-e-Islami declared their decision to boycott the election, advising their members in the electoral college not to cast votes for the presidential post. Notably, the JUI had previously boycotted elections for prime ministership, speakership, and deputy speakership.

In a press conference, Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) leader Pir Sadaruddin Shah Rashdi announced the GDA’s boycott of the presidential election, citing alleged rigging in the elections. Pir Sadaruddin Shah Rashdi also expressed support for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and encouraged GDA workers to participate in the protest against the perceived irregularities.
