anti-terrorism court suggests conducting daily hearings in Imran’s cases

An anti-terrorism court in Islamabad has suggested holding daily hearings for two cases involving Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan and others, registered at Sangjani and I-9 police stations.

The hearings are set to commence from July 8th. The court also requested a written response from the Superintendent of Adiala Jail regarding Imran Khan’s potential appearance via video link.

Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra presided over the hearing, attended by PTI leaders Ali Nawaz Awan, Wasif Qayyum, and Amir Kayani, among others. The court indicated that proceedings would be conducted daily starting July 8th.

Concerning Imran Khan’s video link appearance, the court sought clarification from the Adiala Jail Superintendent.

During the session, requests for exemption from attendance were made by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and PTI leader Amir Mughal, which the judge rejected.

Judge Sipra stressed that absence due to being out of town was not a valid reason for exemption from attendance.

The judge announced that non-bailable arrest warrants would be issued for absent defendants. PTI lawyers assured the court that all defendants would be present at the next hearing.

Judge Sipra stated that if assurance was provided regarding their attendance, reconsideration of the warrant issue would be possible.

The court adjourned both cases until July 8th.
