Aleem Khan Resigns from PP-149 Lahore Seat

PP-149

LAHORE: Abdul Aleem Khan, the President of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), has officially vacated his PP-149 seat in Lahore, on Saturday. While resigning from this constituency, Khan has retained his National Assembly seat, NA-117 Lahore. The decision to leave PP-149 triggers the preparation for a by-election in the constituency.

In the recent elections, Aleem Khan secured victory in Lahore’s PP-149 with 51,756 votes, surpassing his opponent, PTI-backed independent candidate Zeeshan Rasheed, who received 47,998 votes.

In the National Assembly, Aleem Khan emerged victorious in NA-117 Lahore with 91,486 votes, defeating PTI-backed independent candidate Ali Ijaz Buttar, who garnered 80,838 votes.

This move follows a pattern of senior politicians vacating provincial seats after securing multiple victories. Earlier, Maryam Nawaz, a prominent figure in the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) and the nominated candidate for the Chief Minister position in Punjab, resigned from her NA-119 Lahore seat.

Maryam Nawaz, set to become the first woman chief minister in Punjab, won Lahore’s PP-189 seat with 23,598 votes, defeating PTI-backed independent candidate Sharafat Ali Khan, who received 21,491 votes.

The departure of Aleem Khan from PP-149 and Maryam Nawaz from NA-119 opens the door for by-elections, setting the stage for political dynamics and potential shifts in representation.

By-elections are crucial moments, as political parties strive to secure or maintain their influence in specific constituencies, while voters weigh their options in the changing political landscape.

The vacant seats present an opportunity for new candidates to enter the electoral arena, adding another layer to the evolving political narrative in Lahore.
