Peshawar police confirmed on Monday that militants kidnapped and killed Constable Munsif Azam from the Elite Unit in Hassankhel. The attackers snatched him on Sunday evening near the subdivision, which lies about 40 kilometres south of the provincial capital on the Peshawar-Kohat border. Officers recovered his body later the same day, and the entire force now mourns the loss.
Hassankhel Turns Dangerous as Militants Strike Again
This marks the second such killing in the area within three days. On Friday night, unidentified men grabbed another policeman, Muqaddar Khan, from the same spot and martyred him too. As a result, residents now live in fear while security forces step up patrols and launch a fresh investigation. Moreover, the incidents highlight how militants still operate in this sensitive border zone despite recent intelligence-based operations that aimed to flush them out.
Senior officers attended the funeral prayer at Peshawar police headquarters. Peshawar Capital City Police Officer Dr Mian Saeed Ahmad led the ceremony alongside SSP Operations Farhan Khan, military officials and the slain constableโs grieving family. They paid tribute to Munsif Azamโs service and vowed to bring the killers to justice without delay.
In addition, the police force reports several militant attacks in Hassankhel over the past months. On February 8, officers repulsed a direct assault on a checkpoint in nearby Passani village. Earlier, in November 2025, saboteurs blew up a gas pipeline just five miles south of the same post. These repeated strikes keep the law-enforcement agencies on high alert.
Local elders raise their voices and demand stronger action. They warn that if authorities fail to restore peace soon, protests will follow. Meanwhile, police continue strict security arrangements across the district, especially with the anti-polio campaign underway. Officials insist they will not let militants destabilise the region again.
