Two people suffered injuries in Islamabad after a government vehicle allegedly driven by the son of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Raja Khurram Shahzad Nawaz struck their motorcycle. The accident occurred on Saturday night at the Daman-e-Koh signal, prompting police to investigate the incident.
According to police, the motorcycle was stationary at the traffic signal when the official car hit it. A man and a woman riding the motorcycle sustained injuries, and rescuers shifted them to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Police reached the scene after receiving information about the collision and began investigating the circumstances. Meanwhile, the incident drew attention after the MNA confirmed that his son had been driving the vehicle.
MNA Confirms His Son Was Behind the Wheel
Raja Khurram Shahzad Nawaz, who chairs the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Interior, confirmed that the accident had occurred. He also said he personally handed his son over to the police, where he remained in custody.
The MNA acknowledged that the vehicle belonged to him as an official car. Although a driver was present inside, he said his son was driving at the time of the collision.
Furthermore, Khurram Shahzad Nawaz said he had checked on both injured people and expressed regret over the incident. He also denied pressuring the police or the victims to settle the matter.
The denial followed social media allegations that the injured individuals were facing pressure to reach a settlement. However, the available information does not establish whether anyone attempted to influence the victims.
National Assembly Speaker Takes Notice
National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has reportedly taken strict notice of the accident. The government vehicle, registration number GAW-308, belongs to the National Assembly Secretariat and was assigned for the MNA’s use as committee chairman.
The Speaker reportedly asked Khurram Shahzad Nawaz why his son had been allowed to drive the official vehicle. According to the account of the incident, the MNA did not respond to that question.
Khurram Shahzad Nawaz also assured the Speaker that he would cover the full cost of repairing the government car. The vehicle’s involvement has raised questions about its use and the circumstances under which his son was driving.
Police Investigation Continues
Police are investigating the collision that injured two people at the Daman-e-Koh signal. Meanwhile, the MNA’s confirmation and the Speaker’s reported intervention have brought additional attention to the case.
The investigation will help establish the circumstances of the crash and determine any further action. The available details do not indicate that authorities have reached a final conclusion regarding responsibility for the incident.
