Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has returned to Pakistan after a 13-day visit to the United States and Britain, where he held diplomatic and economic meetings with senior officials and global leaders.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry received the prime minister upon his arrival.
Shehbaz Addresses London Stock Exchange
During his London visit, Shehbaz became the first Pakistani prime minister to open a trading session at the London Stock Exchange.
He also formally inaugurated Pakistan’s $3 billion dual-tranche sovereign Eurobond.
The prime minister said Pakistan had strengthened its economic indicators and introduced structural reforms to improve investor confidence.
He highlighted the government’s privatization plans, including Pakistan International Airlines and First Women Bank. He said more state-owned enterprises could be transferred to private-sector management.
Pakistan Seeks Greater Global Investment
Shehbaz said Pakistan wanted stronger engagement with international financial markets. He invited London Stock Exchange Group CEO David Schwimmer to visit Pakistan.
The $3 billion Eurobond attracted nearly $6 billion in investor demand, according to officials. The transaction marked Pakistan’s largest international bond issuance and was part of efforts to diversify financing sources.
The prime minister also discussed opportunities for greater economic cooperation between Pakistan and Britain.
Diplomatic Engagement at UN
During his US visit, Shehbaz represented Pakistan at the United Nations General Assembly and held meetings with world leaders and senior officials.
He also discussed regional developments and Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts amid the Gulf crisis.
The prime minister said Pakistan was managing economic challenges while seeking to contribute to regional peace and stability.
