Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken notice of a non-functional CTA machine at PIMS. The issue emerged after former premier Imran Khan visited the hospital for a medical check-up.
The prime minister formed an inquiry committee headed by the Establishment Division secretary. The committee will investigate the incident, establish facts, and determine responsibility.
According to a senior PIMS doctor, authorities brought Imran to the hospital early Friday without prior notice. The doctor said officials had not completed patient registration or referrals before his arrival.
Imran Khan’s Recommended Test Remains Incomplete
Sources said doctors recommended Imran’s computed tomography angiography test during his examination. However, the hospital could not perform the procedure because the required facility remained unavailable.
Authorities later returned Imran to Adiala jail after doctors could not complete the recommended test. Meanwhile, the government ordered a detailed inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The committee will determine whether PIMS had the technical capability to perform CTA procedures since 2022. It will also assess whether the hospital had sufficient equipment, staff, software, and other technical resources.
Inquiry Committee to Examine Hospital Procedures
The committee will review CTA procedures conducted at PIMS since 2022. Furthermore, investigators will examine hospital records, referral systems, and coordination between cardiology and radiology departments.
The inquiry will also assess whether cardiology patients routinely received referrals to private medical centres. Investigators will determine whether officials favored specific private facilities and diverted business from the public hospital.
Moreover, the committee will examine possible mismanagement or coordination failures between relevant departments. It will identify officials responsible if such issues caused losses to the public interest.
PM Shehbaz instructed the committee to examine all relevant records and submit a comprehensive report. The National Health Services Ministry will provide assistance during the investigation.
