A heartbreaking incident in Punjab’s Layyah district has claimed the lives of two young girls after they fell into an open sewage pit near Patani Chowk. The tragedy has once again highlighted growing concerns over unsafe public infrastructure and the dangers posed by uncovered sewage pits and manholes.
The victims, identified as Tehrim Fatima, 8, and Zainab, 7, were reportedly playing outside when the accident occurred. Although rescue teams responded quickly, both children could not be saved.

Rescuers launched an operation without delay and recovered both girls from the sewage pit. However, despite their efforts, the children had already lost their lives.

The Layyah incident came only one day after another fatal accident in Rahim Yar Khan.
In that incident, an 18-year-old mentally challenged girl lost her life after falling into an uncovered manhole in Aslam Town. Rescue officials later recovered her body and handed it over to her family.
The back-to-back tragedies have intensified public concerns over neglected civic infrastructure across different parts of Punjab.
