Murree Police have urged tourists and local residents to avoid unnecessary travel after continuous torrential rainfall increased the risk of flash floods and landslides across the hill station.
The advisory comes as authorities remain on high alert to protect residents and visitors from weather-related emergencies. Police have also intensified monitoring of vulnerable locations to ensure public safety.
Security and Traffic Police Placed on High Alert
District Police Officer (DPO) Dr. Muhammad Raza Tanveer directed security and traffic police to remain fully alert as heavy rainfall continues to affect Murree and nearby areas.
According to officials, Murree Police are using all available resources to ensure the safe movement of residents and tourists. At the same time, authorities are working to minimize disruptions caused by the adverse weather.
The DPO said personnel from both the District Police and Traffic Police have been deployed throughout the region. As a result, emergency assistance and traffic management remain available at key locations.
Traffic Slows as Police Monitor Critical Routes
Although persistent rainfall has slowed traffic on several roads, traffic wardens continue performing duties at major intersections, roundabouts, and dangerous bends.
Moreover, police officers remain stationed along important highways to guide travelers and provide assistance whenever needed.
Officials said these measures aim to reduce risks and help motorists travel more safely during the ongoing monsoon spell.
Authorities Identify High-Risk Areas
The DPO identified several locations where overflowing streams have increased the danger of flooding and road damage.
These areas include the Murree Expressway, Lehtrar/Lecot, Masiari, Basantal Mor, and Mughalabad.
Furthermore, heavy water flow along Angoori Road, 17 Mile, and the Salgran GT Road has significantly raised the risk of falling rocks and mudslides.
Police and the district administration are continuously monitoring these vulnerable points. They remain prepared to respond quickly if weather conditions worsen.
Police Issue Safety Advisory for Tourists
Authorities have advised tourists to postpone non-essential travel until weather conditions improve.
They also urged drivers to exercise extreme caution while travelling on hilly roads, especially the Murree Expressway and Angoori Road.
In addition, residents and visitors have been instructed to stay away from natural drainage channels because of the possibility of sudden flash floods.
DPO Dr. Muhammad Raza Tanveer assured the public that Murree Police are fully prepared to assist citizens during emergencies.
