Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced a major cabin modernization programme for its Boeing 777 fleet to improve passenger comfort and onboard facilities. The airline has signed an agreement to refurbish five aircraft, with an option to extend the upgrade to four additional planes.
The initiative aims to improve PIA’s long-haul travel experience through updated seating, modern interiors and enhanced passenger services. Moreover, the programme forms part of the airline’s broader efforts to improve service quality and strengthen its position in the aviation market.
New Seating and Improved Passenger Facilities
The cabin refurbishment will introduce full-flat Business Class seats, allowing passengers to rest more comfortably during long-haul journeys. Meanwhile, Economy Class passengers will benefit from refurbished seats and improved onboard facilities.
PIA also plans to install 60-watt in-seat charging systems to help passengers charge compatible electronic devices during flights. Additionally, the aircraft will receive new carpets, refreshed branding and upgraded interior features to create a more modern cabin environment.
These improvements aim to bring the passenger experience closer to international aviation standards. However, the overall impact will depend on the successful completion of the refurbishment programme and the introduction of the new facilities.
International Partners to Support Modernization
PIA will collaborate with Aerotec Group and its subsidiary, aviationscouts, to carry out the cabin upgrades. The partners will contribute expertise in aircraft interiors, engineering, material procurement, logistics and technical coordination.
Furthermore, the programme includes certification and planning to ensure that the upgraded cabins meet relevant aviation requirements. The airline will schedule the work in phases to manage maintenance needs and minimize operational disruption.
PIA Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Amir Hayat said the modernization initiative supports the airline’s wider transformation efforts. He emphasized the importance of improving passenger comfort, convenience and service quality.
Through this investment, PIA aims to modernize its existing Boeing 777 aircraft without replacing the fleet. The additional upgrade option could extend these improvements to more aircraft in the future.
