The federal government has assured the public that Pakistan has sufficient petrol reserves to meet current demand. Officials said there is no immediate risk of a fuel shortage despite growing speculation in recent days.
The assurance came during a meeting of the National Coordination and Management Council (NCMC), where officials reviewed the country’s petroleum supply situation.
According to the meeting, existing fuel stocks remain adequate. Therefore, authorities urged the public not to panic over reports suggesting a possible shortage.
NCMC Reviews National Fuel Supplies
The National Coordination and Management Council reviewed petroleum availability across the country. During the meeting, officials confirmed that current reserves are sufficient to meet consumer demand.
Representatives of the Oil Companies Advisory Council (OCAC) also briefed participants on the fuel supply situation. They addressed concerns regarding possible disruptions and clarified the overall availability of petroleum products.
Consequently, the government maintained that the national fuel supply chain remains stable.
Sharp Increase in Petrol Sales Raises Questions
Officials also discussed the significant increase in petrol sales recorded during the first 15 days of July.
According to the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the unusual rise in fuel purchases may have resulted from hoarding. The regulator believes consumers and traders increased purchases because they expected higher fuel prices.
As a result, demand increased sharply within a short period.
However, officials stressed that the increase in sales does not indicate an actual shortage of petroleum products.
Government Orders Action Against Hoarding
Following the review, the NCMC directed OGRA to strengthen enforcement against fuel hoarding.
In addition, provincial governments received instructions to take immediate action against individuals or businesses involved in storing excessive quantities of petroleum products.
The government believes stronger monitoring will help prevent artificial shortages and discourage unnecessary panic buying.
Furthermore, authorities were instructed to closely monitor fuel distribution across the country.
Authorities Directed to Ensure Continuous Fuel Supply
The meeting also emphasized the need to maintain uninterrupted fuel availability nationwide.
Relevant departments have been directed to ensure that petroleum products remain available without disruption. Officials will continue monitoring supply levels to prevent shortages in local markets.
Moreover, coordination among regulatory bodies, oil companies, and provincial administrations will continue to ensure smooth fuel distribution.
Government Urges Public to Avoid Panic Buying
The government has reiterated that Pakistan currently possesses adequate petrol reserves to satisfy existing demand.
Officials advised citizens to avoid panic buying or unnecessary stockpiling, as such practices can create artificial supply pressures.
Meanwhile, regulatory authorities will continue monitoring the market while taking action against hoarding to maintain a stable petroleum supply across the country.
