Similarly, high-speed diesel now costs Rs389.27 per litre, compared with the previous rate of Rs396.96.

Government Maintains High Petroleum Taxes
Despite the latest reduction, the government continues to collect significant taxes and duties on fuel.
Petrol carries Rs114 per litre in taxes and duties, while diesel carries Rs100 per litre.
Earlier, petrol prices reached Rs458.41 per litre on April 3. Diesel also climbed to Rs520.35 during the same period.
The sharp increases followed regional conflict and disruptions in international energy markets.
Why Are Fuel Prices Changing Frequently?
The government introduced daily fuel price reviews in July 2026.
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority now determines prices using international market trends and the government’s pricing system.
Officials introduced the mechanism to respond more quickly to global oil price changes.
Meanwhile, the government has also introduced measures to reduce fuel consumption.
These include restrictions on market operating hours and reduced fuel allocations for official vehicles.
Will Lower Fuel Prices Benefit Consumers?
The latest reductions could ease travel expenses for motorcycle riders, car owners, and public transport operators.
Lower diesel prices may also reduce operating costs for trucks, buses, and agricultural machinery.
However, any reduction in transport fares or food prices will depend on how businesses pass along their savings.
The government continues to monitor global oil markets as regional tensions affect energy supplies.
