A passenger on a rerouted flydubai flight bound for Tel Aviv claimed that one pilot tried to crash the aircraft after an alleged fight between the two pilots. The plane made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia, where both pilots reportedly received medical treatment.
The flydubai aircraft landed at Tabuk Airport at 9:45am local time, according to the airport operator. Officials said the captain and copilot had injuries, while the airline confirmed that all passengers were safe.
Flight Loses Altitude During Incident
Flight FZ 1073 was travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv when the incident occurred. Flight tracking data reportedly showed the aircraft dropping from nearly 34,000 feet to below 17,000 feet within about a minute.
Passenger Miryam Shira Ohayon said the aircraft became “pretty much out of control” while flying over Jordan. She claimed the copilot tried to stab the captain and that passengers intervened to prevent the situation from escalating.
Ohayon said passengers restrained the copilot and helped both pilots after the confrontation. She added that a doctor on board provided first aid while passengers assisted those involved.
Israeli Minister Raises Terror Attack Claim
Israel’s National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir described the incident as an alleged attempted “terrorist” attack. However, authorities had not publicly established the motive or circumstances surrounding the reported confrontation.
Several Israeli media outlets reported that a fight broke out between the pilots and may have triggered a distress signal. The airline has confirmed that the aircraft landed safely but has not publicly detailed the cause of the incident.
No passengers reported injuries following the emergency landing. Authorities are expected to investigate the incident and determine what happened inside the cockpit during the flight.
