Pakistan’s Federal Constitutional Court (FCCP) has secured observer status in the Conference of Constitutional Jurisdictions of the Turkic World (TÜRK-AY). The achievement marks an important step in Pakistan’s engagement with the global constitutional justice community. Moreover, it strengthens the court’s international presence and expands opportunities for judicial cooperation.
Farhad Abdullayev, Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Azerbaijan and Term President of TÜRK-AY, officially informed Chief Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan about the decision.
According to the official letter, all member courts unanimously approved Pakistan’s admission under Article 10.4 of the organization’s statute.
Pakistan Strengthens International Judicial Relations
Farhad Abdullayev congratulated the Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan on becoming an observer. He also welcomed the court into the organization.
Furthermore, he expressed confidence in the court’s expertise and professional experience. He said Pakistan’s participation would add value to TÜRK-AY’s activities.
In addition, he hoped the new partnership would strengthen judicial cooperation and encourage greater institutional collaboration. He also emphasized the importance of promoting shared constitutional values among member courts.
Chief Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan welcomed the development. He described the unanimous decision as a sign of growing international confidence in Pakistan’s constitutional jurisprudence.
Moreover, he reaffirmed the court’s commitment to the rule of law, constitutional governance, and judicial cooperation across different jurisdictions.
Observer Status Opens New Opportunities
Observer membership will allow Pakistan’s Federal Constitutional Court to participate in judicial dialogue with constitutional courts of the Turkic world.
Additionally, the court will exchange legal expertise, share best practices, and contribute to discussions on constitutional justice. These opportunities will further strengthen professional cooperation among member institutions.
TÜRK-AY was established on April 27, 2022, in Istanbul, Türkiye. The organization promotes cooperation among constitutional courts across the Turkic world.
Its full members include the constitutional courts of Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan.
The Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening ties with judicial institutions worldwide. Furthermore, it pledged to continue supporting constitutionalism, judicial independence, and the protection of fundamental rights through international cooperation.
