Pakistani students living abroad can open bank accounts in Pakistan through digital banking services, making financial transactions easier while studying overseas.
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) allows eligible non-resident Pakistanis, including students, to open Roshan Digital Accounts remotely. They can complete the process online without visiting a bank branch in Pakistan.
Digital Banking for Overseas Students
The Roshan Digital Account initiative offers overseas Pakistanis access to banking services through participating commercial banks. Students can use these accounts to manage their finances and carry out transactions in Pakistan. They can also choose between Pakistani rupee and foreign currency accounts, subject to eligibility requirements.
Moreover, the facility offers conventional and Shariah-compliant banking options.
Documents Required to Open an Account
Applicants must provide valid identification and supporting documents during the account opening process. These may include a Pakistani passport, CNIC, NICOP or Pakistan Origin Card. Banks may also request proof of non-resident status and information about the applicant’s profession and source of funds.
Once applicants submit the required documents, banks review their information and complete the verification process.
SBP Expands Access to Digital Banking
The central bank has also expanded the scope of Roshan Digital Accounts to cover additional non-resident individuals and entities. This initiative aims to improve access to Pakistan’s financial system and encourage overseas Pakistanis to use formal banking channels.
For students, digital account access can simplify financial management while they pursue education abroad. It also provides a convenient way to maintain banking connections with Pakistan.
