Pakistani robotics data company World Context hosted its first robotics hackathon at the University of California, Berkeley. The event brought together 13 teams as part of efforts to expand artificial intelligence and technology trade between Pakistan and the United States.
World Context organized the hackathon in partnership with Blockchain at Berkeley. Google Gemini, ElevenLabs, The Hackathon Company, Lovable, Praxis Robotics and UC Berkeley Startup sponsored the event.
Teams Compete Across Multiple Robotics Tracks
Participants used datasets provided by World Context to develop projects across hardware, software and visualization tracks. The competition allowed teams to explore robotics applications through practical projects and technology-focused solutions.
Sortbot won the hardware track with its project focused on developing robots that can sort different types of objects. Meanwhile, Reconstructors secured the software track for its work on reconstructing World Context data in the physical world.
Reconstructors also developed a simulation that won the visualization track. The event distributed a total of $4,500, equivalent to around Rs 1.25 million, in cash prizes among the winners.
Human Data Gains Importance in Robotics
The hackathon also highlighted the growing role of human demonstration data in robotics development. By recording how people perform tasks in real-world environments, developers can create examples that show machines how physical activities are carried out.
Such datasets can help researchers and engineers train artificial intelligence systems designed to operate in physical environments. Furthermore, the event demonstrated how robotics, data and AI can create opportunities for technological collaboration between Pakistan and the United States.
