Pakistani journalist Murtaza Ali Shah was assaulted while covering a protest march in central London. The incident occurred during a demonstration organised by supporters of the banned Joint Awami Action Committee. Authorities later escorted the journalist to safety after tensions escalated.
Journalist Attacked While Reporting
According to reports, the protest began at Hyde Park before moving towards the Pakistan High Commission. A large number of British Kashmiris joined the demonstration. Protesters demanded an end to violence in Azad Kashmir. They also called for restored fundamental rights and renewed dialogue.
Eyewitnesses and videos showed Shah reporting as the march approached the High Commission. During the coverage, at least three individuals allegedly attacked him. Reports claimed they punched and kicked the journalist from different directions.
Consequently, a crowd gathered around Shah, increasing tensions at the scene. Metropolitan Police officers, protest organisers, and participants quickly intervened. Their actions prevented the confrontation from escalating further.
Police then escorted Shah away from the crowd and ensured his safety.
Police Restore Order After Assault
According to reports, Shah later returned to the Pakistan High Commission to continue reporting. However, members of the same group allegedly attempted to harass him again.
Police remained present near the area following the incident. Authorities have not announced any arrests linked to the reported assault.
The incident has raised concerns about journalists’ safety while covering public demonstrations. Meanwhile, media observers continue monitoring developments as officials review witness accounts and available video footage.
