Pakistan recorded more than 4.4 million foreign visitor arrivals during 2024 and 2025, according to figures presented in the National Assembly. The data highlights the number of international visitors entering the country over the two-year period, with Afghanistan, the United Kingdom and the United States emerging as leading sources.
Pakistan received approximately 2.18 million foreign visitors in 2024, while arrivals increased to around 2.29 million in 2025. The figures indicate a year-on-year rise in international arrivals, although the totals include visitors entering for different purposes.
Afghanistan and UK Lead Foreign Arrivals
Afghanistan accounted for the largest share of visitors, with 641,199 arrivals in 2024 and 575,674 in 2025. Despite the decline, Afghan nationals remained the biggest group among the countries included in the figures.
The United Kingdom ranked second, recording 503,409 arrivals in 2024 and 514,412 in 2025. Meanwhile, the United States contributed 261,282 visitors in 2024 and 248,665 in the following year.
Iran also showed a notable increase, with arrivals rising from 106,835 in 2024 to 152,885 in 2025. Canada recorded 116,529 visitors in 2024 and 117,600 in 2025, while China’s figures increased from 74,093 to 85,575.
Tourism Potential and Data Concerns
The figures also included visitors from Germany, Australia, Malaysia and Thailand. However, the reported numbers reflect international arrivals and do not necessarily represent people travelling exclusively for leisure or sightseeing.
During parliamentary discussions, questions were raised about classifying all arrivals from Afghanistan as tourists. The discussion highlighted the importance of distinguishing tourism visits from travel for family, business or other reasons.
Pakistan has several attractions that could support further tourism development, including historical landmarks, cultural heritage sites and mountain destinations. Better promotion of these attractions could help the country attract more international visitors and strengthen tourism-related economic activity.
Nevertheless, the arrival figures alone do not establish how much revenue Pakistan earned from these visitors or how much promotional initiatives contributed to the increase.
