The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain, thunderstorms and strong winds across several parts of the country over the coming days. The weather system may also bring isolated hailstorms, with intermittent breaks expected between rainfall spells.
According to the forecast issued on October 9, a westerly wave is likely to enter the country’s upper regions on Saturday and may persist until October 15. Consequently, several cities could experience cooler temperatures and unsettled weather.
Punjab and Islamabad Face Rainfall
Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sialkot and several other Punjab districts may receive rain and thunderstorms on October 10, 11, 13 and 14. Meanwhile, Multan, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan and nearby areas may experience similar conditions on October 10, 11 and 13.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain, strong winds and thunderstorms are expected in Peshawar, Swat, Abbottabad, Mardan, Swabi, Chitral and several other districts from October 10 to 15.
Hailstorms Could Damage Crops and Infrastructure
The forecast also covers Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, where scattered rainfall and thunderstorms may continue until October 15. However, Sindh is likely to remain mainly hot and dry, while isolated rainfall may affect Zhob, Barkhan and Musakhel in Balochistan.
The Met Office has warned that strong winds, lightning and hailstorms could damage weak buildings, electricity poles, billboards, vehicles and solar panels. Additionally, hailstorms may harm standing crops across the plains of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Light snowfall may also occur over high mountains and glaciers during the weather system’s passage. Furthermore, daytime temperatures could fall by two to four degrees Celsius in affected areas.
Authorities have been advised to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures to minimise potential damage. Farmers should also adjust agricultural activities according to local weather conditions and forecasts.
