Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan says the Makkah Coalition involving Türkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia is moving closer to becoming fully operational.
Speaking in a television interview, Fidan said work was underway to turn the agreement into a functioning defence framework. He also discussed regional tensions involving Israel, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Yemen.
Makkah Coalition Moves Toward Operational Stage
Fidan said the coalition had reached an advanced stage, with preparations underway for its organizational structure.
“The Makkah Coalition is currently at a very good stage. A very strong will has been shown, and we are striving with all our strength to turn this will into action.”
He added that work on the coalition’s secretariat and military command centre was almost complete.
“You will see that the Makkah Coalition will be a very important and influential platform, God willing.”
The agreement was signed by Türkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia on August 7. It establishes a collective defence framework under which an armed attack against one member is regarded as an attack against all three.
Türkiye Offers Support to Saudi Arabia
Fidan also addressed the ongoing attacks involving Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthis.
“We do not accept that Saudi Arabia becomes part of the ongoing conflict between Iran and America,” he said, adding that Riyadh should remain separate from the confrontation.
He said Türkiye was monitoring Saudi Arabia’s situation closely and could help meet military needs, particularly in technical areas.
“We, as members of the Makkah Coalition, are closely monitoring Saudi Arabia’s situation. They may have military needs, especially in some technical areas, and we have no problem helping to meet these needs.”
Fidan also called for Israel to adopt a policy based on peace, respect and cooperation.
Meanwhile, he said diplomatic efforts to end the Ukraine war must continue, despite difficulties in achieving sustainable results.
