Pakistan is preparing to launch a gender tracker system to monitor online harassment targeting women.
The system will also track the unauthorized use of women’s images and videos. A dedicated portal and digital dashboard for gender-based violence have also been developed.
Gender Dashboard to Track Women’s Safety
Acting Chairperson of the National Commission on the Status of Women, Nooreen Bano, briefed a committee meeting chaired by Nafisa Shah.
She said a baseline survey is underway across all four provinces. The survey aims to improve the commission’s complaint management system.
The system will also be made easier to use in Urdu, Sindhi, Pashto, Balochi and other languages.
Legal Support for Women Proposed
The commission has proposed appointing women lawyers in every province. The lawyers would provide legal assistance to women facing rights violations and gender-based violence.
Nooreen Bano said the national gender dashboard will assess women’s conditions using 115 indicators.
Reports have also been requested from all provincial police chiefs. The data will help ensure timely and complete information on crimes against women.
Women Facilitation Centre Targeted for 2027
Work is continuing on the National Gender Equality Report and the gender dashboard.
The commission is also targeting completion of the Women Facilitation Centre in 2027.
The centre is planned as a one-stop facility. It will provide services including NADRA, passport, healthcare, counselling and legal assistance under one roof.
