Pakistan summoned India’s chargé d’affaires on Saturday and lodged a strong protest over the killing of two Pakistani civilians by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in Kasur.
The Foreign Office said the incident occurred on Friday in the Bedian sector along the international border. Two unarmed civilians died in the firing, while another sustained injuries.
Foreign Office Demands Transparent Investigation
According to the FO, Pakistan rejected attempts to describe the deceased as “infiltrators” and called for an immediate, transparent and credible investigation. It also demanded legal and disciplinary action against any BSF personnel found responsible.
Furthermore, Pakistan urged India to formally share the investigation’s findings and details of any action taken against those involved. The Foreign Office also called on India to respect fundamental human rights, international law and established border procedures.
The FO said the use of lethal force against unarmed civilians was unjustified and raised serious concerns about protecting civilian life. Meanwhile, Pakistan urged India to exercise restraint and take effective measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Two Civilians Killed Near Border Pillar
Security sources said three residents of Ladhar village came a few paces beyond a border pillar when BSF personnel opened fire on them. The three men were reportedly unarmed, and security sources said none had attempted to cross the border fence.
The deceased were identified as Azmat Rasool, son of Attaullah, and Mohsin Jutt. Both belonged to Jattan Wali Haveli in Ladhar, while the third civilian suffered injuries and received medical attention.
The incident has prompted a fresh diplomatic exchange between Pakistan and India. Pakistan has formally sought accountability and information regarding the investigation into the deaths.
