West Indies claimed a convincing 90-run victory over Pakistan in the opening Test at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy on Tuesday. The hosts successfully defended a target of 211, dismissing Pakistan for just 120 to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
Pakistan resumed the final session at 114/9, hoping for a remarkable escape. However, the innings ended quickly when Jayden Seales trapped Mohammad Abbas lbw after the visitors added only six more runs.
Captain Babar Azam remained unbeaten on 58 from 107 deliveries. He fought alone as wickets continued to fall around him. Mohammad Abbas provided valuable support with a determined 23, while Mohammad Rizwan was the only other batter to reach double figures with 11 runs.
Jayden Seales Leads West Indies Bowling Attack
Jayden Seales produced a match-winning spell in Pakistan’s second innings. He finished with outstanding figures of 5/20 in 14.2 overs and dismantled the visitors’ batting lineup.
Kemar Roach and Justin Greaves supported Seales with two wickets each. Meanwhile, Shamar Joseph claimed one wicket to complete the victory.
Earlier, Pakistan’s chase started poorly when Kemar Roach dismissed Imam-ul-Haq for three. Soon after, Jayden Seales removed Azan Awais for three and trapped Salman Ali Agha lbw for a duck. Pakistan slipped to 25/3 within the opening overs.
Later, Justin Greaves dismissed Rizwan after a brief partnership with Babar. Pakistan then lost five wickets for only 25 runs and collapsed to 71/9 before Babar and Abbas added a fighting 49-run stand for the final wicket.
Abbas Shines Despite Pakistan Defeat
Earlier in the day, West Indies resumed their second innings at 126/7 and added 55 important runs. Shamar Joseph led the resistance with an aggressive 38, while Kemar Roach contributed 18.
Mohammad Abbas impressed with the ball and claimed 5/22, including the wickets of Roach and Jomel Warrican. Mohammad Ali and Khurram Shahzad picked up two wickets each, while Aamir Jamal claimed one.
Despite Abbas’ outstanding bowling performance, Pakistan failed to chase the target. The victory gives West Indies a valuable advantage ahead of the second and final Test.
