Pakistan’s Information Ministry has rejected reports claiming that an army officer died during the Pakistan–Sri Lanka cricket match. The clarification aims to counter circulating claims and prevent the spread of unverified information.
The ministry urged the public and media outlets to verify such reports through official channels before sharing them. It also stressed the importance of relying on credible sources during major sporting events.
PCB Employee Died After Electric Shock
The ministry clarified that the deceased was a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) employee, not an army officer. It also said he was not present at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium during the Pakistan–Sri Lanka match.
According to the ministry’s fact-check, the man suffered an electric shock. His family contacted Rescue 1122, which helped transfer him to a local hospital.
Hospital records identified electrocution as the cause of death. The ministry added that authorities would conduct further inquiries according to established procedures.
Ministry Warns Against Misleading Claims
The ministry stressed that the employee’s connection with the PCB did not link his death to the cricket match. It described claims suggesting otherwise as misleading.
The clarification comes amid widespread social media sharing of unverified reports. Therefore, officials urged the public to check information through reliable sources before circulating it.
The incident highlights the importance of distinguishing confirmed facts from online speculation, particularly when claims involve public institutions and major sporting events.
