Pakistan secured a convincing 3-0 victory over China in their Pool B match at the 2026 Asian Games. Captain Abubakar Mahmood, Sufyan, and Hannan Shahid scored to complete Pakistan’s third consecutive win.
Neither side managed to score during a quiet opening quarter. However, Pakistan broke the deadlock in the 19th minute when captain Mahmood converted a penalty corner.
Pakistan Build Strong Lead
Sufyan doubled Pakistan’s advantage five minutes later through another successful penalty corner. Then, Shahid added a third goal in the 28th minute with an impressive field goal.
Pakistan entered halftime with a commanding three-goal advantage. Although Zikriya Hayat received a green card in the third quarter, Pakistan maintained control until the final whistle.
China struggled to create enough opportunities to threaten Pakistan’s lead. The Chinese side ultimately failed to score throughout the match as Pakistan completed another strong defensive performance.
Pakistan Strengthen Pool B Position
The victory marked Pakistan’s third straight success in the men’s hockey competition. The team began its campaign with a 9-0 victory over Thailand before defeating Uzbekistan 5-1 in its second league-stage match.
Consequently, Pakistan strengthened its second position in Pool B with nine points. The Green Shirts also hold a positive goal difference of 16 after three matches.
Malaysia currently leads the group with nine points and a goal difference of 24. Therefore, Pakistan’s upcoming meeting with Malaysia could determine which team finishes the league stage at the top.
Pakistan will face Malaysia in its penultimate league-stage match on Saturday. The fixture will take place at the same venue and could play a key role in deciding the final Pool B standings.
