Pakistan’s Interior Ministry has proposed key changes to the country’s Tinted Glass Permit Policy 2025. Moreover, the revised draft narrows eligibility while offering free permits to current and former parliamentarians.
Diplomats Replace Foreign Nationals In Draft Policy
The revised policy changes the eligibility criteria for foreign nationals seeking tinted window permits. Instead, only accredited diplomats will qualify for tinted glass permits under the proposed rules.
Furthermore, the ministry has removed the word “foreigner” from the draft policy. It has replaced the term with “diplomat” to clarify the revised eligibility requirements.
Previously, eligible applicants paid an annual permit fee of Rs15,000 for vehicle window tinting. However, the updated draft introduces exemptions for specific categories.
Parliamentarians To Receive Free Tinted Glass Permits
Under the proposed amendments, current and former members of parliament will receive tinted glass permits free of charge. Consequently, they will no longer need to pay the annual permit fee.
The Interior Ministry prepared the amendments following recommendations from the Senate Standing Committee on Interior. Additionally, the ministry has circulated the revised draft among relevant stakeholders for review.
Officials have invited comments and recommendations from all concerned institutions before final approval. Meanwhile, the revised policy will take effect only after the ministry receives final feedback from stakeholders.
The proposed amendments aim to redefine eligibility and streamline the tinted glass permit system. However, the government has not yet announced a timeline for implementing the updated policy.
