The government of Pakistan has revised petroleum prices, reducing petrol by Rs 2.71 per litre while increasing high-speed diesel by Rs 0.31. The updated rates will take effect on October 22, 2026, following changes in international oil markets and the government’s daily fuel pricing mechanism.
Under the latest revision, petrol will cost Rs 379.31 per litre, while high-speed diesel will be available at Rs 390.11 per litre. Consequently, motorists will receive some relief on petrol, although diesel consumers will face a slight increase.
Updated Petroleum Rates Across Pakistan
The revised prices reflect adjustments made by the government based on movements in international petroleum benchmarks, premiums and other costs. Moreover, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has introduced daily price announcements to improve transparency and respond more quickly to global market changes.
The new rates follow a period of fluctuations in local fuel prices. Previously, the government increased petrol to Rs 382.02 per litre and diesel to Rs 389.80 per litre for October 21. However, the latest notification introduces different rates for the following day.
Daily Pricing Mechanism Drives Fuel Changes
The government adopted a daily fuel pricing system amid volatility in international oil markets and concerns about disruptions to energy supplies. Under this framework, OGRA calculates prices using a seven-day average of international petroleum rates.
Furthermore, the regulator can announce revised prices without seeking prior approval from the prime minister or federal government. This approach aims to pass international price movements on to consumers more quickly.
The new mechanism also covers kerosene oil and light diesel oil, with authorities directing relevant departments to implement the revised framework. Meanwhile, fluctuations in global oil prices will continue to influence Pakistan’s petroleum rates and transportation costs.
Consumers should check official notifications for subsequent changes as the government continues its daily review process.
