Pakistan on Sunday strongly rejected allegations made by the Afghan Taliban regime linking Pakistani security forces and intelligence agencies to alleged violence in Afghanistan’s Nuristan province. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting described the accusations as frivolous, baseless and completely without evidence.
In an official fact-check statement, the ministry denied claims that Pakistani agencies had recruited or trained former Afghan security personnel or facilitated Daesh or any other terrorist group operating inside Afghanistan. It stressed that no credible evidence had been presented to support the allegations.
Pakistan Dismisses Allegations as Unfounded
The statement noted that no identities, documents, communications, forensic proof or independent verification had been provided by the Afghan Taliban authorities. Therefore, Pakistan rejected any suggestion of involvement in activities allegedly carried out in Nuristan.
The response followed a statement from the Afghan Taliban’s Ministry of Defence, which claimed that groups affiliated with Daesh and other elements had crossed the Durand Line into Nuristan’s Kamdesh district with support from Pakistani militias. Taliban authorities alleged that their forces killed 28 individuals, captured 32 others and forced the remaining suspects to flee.
Islamabad Calls for Action Against Terror Groups
Meanwhile, Pakistan also dismissed a video circulating on social media that was being used to support the allegations. The ministry stated that the footage showed a small number of unarmed individuals and did not provide evidence of the claims being made.
Furthermore, the statement referred to reports by the United Nations and other international organizations documenting the presence of various terrorist groups inside Afghanistan. Pakistan said attempts to link these groups to Pakistan could not change the reality of their continued presence on Afghan soil.
Islamabad urged the Afghan Taliban regime to take credible action against terrorist organizations operating from Afghanistan and fulfill commitments that its territory would not be used for attacks against other countries, including Pakistan.
