Pakistan Railways Cancels Officers’ Holidays Amid Safety Crisis
Under the new directives, Pakistan Railways has cancelled weekly holidays and other official leave for field officers for three months.
Officials have been instructed to remain available for operational duties and conduct regular safety inspections.
On the first day of the emergency, field officers visited railway sites to monitor train operations and examine existing safety arrangements.
Meanwhile, authorities have introduced additional reporting requirements to strengthen accountability across railway departments.
Chief engineers from the civil and mechanical departments must submit daily operational reports to the Ministry of Railways.
The railway safety chief has also been directed to provide daily updates on safety conditions and operational concerns.
Additionally, officers travelling to other cities for official assignments must use trains instead of alternative transport.
The measure will allow officials to observe railway operations directly and identify potential safety concerns during their journeys.
The operational emergency will remain effective until December 31, 2026, according to the official directives.
Pakistan Railways faces increasing pressure to address repeated accidents and restore public confidence in railway travel.
The latest measures aim to improve supervision, strengthen departmental accountability, and reduce operational risks across the national railway network.
