Speaking at a press conference alongside Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Tarar criticised the PTI-led provincial government’s approach to counterterrorism. He alleged that the KP government had refused to take ownership of counterterrorism operations across the province.
Tarar also questioned PTI’s response to recent cross-border firing from Afghanistan. According to the minister, the party’s leadership had yet to condemn the incidents.
Tarar Questions PTI’s Position on Terrorism
Tarar urged PTI to make its position clear regarding Pakistan and Afghanistan as terrorism continues to affect Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He accused the provincial government of failing to take effective measures against terrorism despite having sufficient time to address the situation.
“I said in KP that their intentions are bad. I have been saying for years that they [PTI] is a B-team of the TTP [Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan]. I am justified in saying that because they facilitated the terrorists in the last 12 years,” he added.
The minister further argued that the provincial government had already had enough time to improve conditions across KP.
He said, “12 and a half years are enough” to change the conditions of any province.
KP Government Accused of Failing to Address Terrorism
Tarar alleged that the KP government had failed to effectively respond to terrorism and provide basic services to residents.
He said people in the province were increasingly turning to other provinces to access basic facilities.
Meanwhile, Tarar claimed that the federal government had offered modern vehicles to the KP police. However, he said the provincial government rejected the offer.
“Our firm resolve is to eliminate the scourge of terrorism from its roots,” the minister added.
According to Tarar, the provincial leadership must take greater responsibility for addressing security challenges within the province.
Tarar Criticises PTI’s Response to Cross-Border Firing
The information minister further alleged that PTI leadership had left the KP police “at the mercy of terrorists”.
He also criticised the party over its response to recent firing from Afghanistan, saying PTI leadership had not condemned the incidents to date.
“Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is burning in the fire of terrorism,” he said.
Tarar also accused the provincial leadership of focusing primarily on securing the release of a prisoner from jail.
His remarks came as he questioned the priorities of the KP government while terrorism remains a major challenge in the province.
