Pakistan says its military has carried out targeted airstrikes against militant hideouts in Afghanistan, killing 22 terrorists. The Federal Ministry for Information and Broadcasting said the strikes targeted locations linked to groups Pakistan identifies as Fitna al-Khwarij and Fitna al-Hindustan.
According to the ministry, the attacks were based on credible intelligence and formed part of Operation Ghazab lil Haq.
Pakistan Reports 22 Militants Killed
The ministry said security forces targeted two locations in Afghanistan used by militant organisations and their affiliates.
It described the strikes as selective and precise, saying the targets included camps and hideouts.
Initial reports indicated that 22 militants were killed, according to the ministry. Large quantities of weapons and ammunition stored at the targeted locations were also reportedly destroyed.
The ministry said the operation followed intelligence assessments about militant activity and infrastructure.
Pakistan has previously said terrorist groups operating from Afghan territory pose a security threat. Islamabad has repeatedly accused the Afghan Taliban of allowing militant sanctuaries to operate from Afghanistan, while Afghan authorities have rejected such allegations.
Airstrikes Part of Operation Ghazab Lil Haq
The Information Ministry said the latest attacks were conducted as part of Operation Ghazab lil Haq. The campaign operates under Pakistan’s broader Azm-e-Istehkam counterterrorism framework.
Officials said the military took precautions to avoid civilian casualties during the strikes.
The ministry also reiterated that Pakistan wants regional peace and stability. However, it said protecting Pakistani citizens remains the government’s primary responsibility.
Pakistan has conducted several rounds of strikes against targets in Afghanistan under the operation. Earlier military statements described targets as militant training camps, support infrastructure and other facilities.
Six Militants Killed in Balochistan
Meanwhile, security forces have continued counterterrorism operations inside Pakistan.
Security sources said six militants were killed in an intelligence-based operation in the Sunni area of Kachhi district, Balochistan.
According to the sources, security forces used quadcopters to target the militants.
A large quantity of weapons and ammunition was reportedly recovered from the bodies of those killed.
A clearance operation was also underway in the area to search for any remaining militants.
The operation was carried out under Operation Radd-ul-Fitna 3, which security forces have been conducting against groups Pakistan identifies as Fitna al-Hindustan. Recent operations in Balochistan have also resulted in militant deaths in Panjgur, Kachhi and other districts.
Pakistan Maintains Counterterrorism Campaign
The latest operations come amid heightened tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Pakistan has continued to link militant attacks inside the country to groups operating from Afghanistan. At the same time, the Afghan side has disputed Pakistan’s accusations and rejected claims of involvement in some recent violence.
The Information Ministry said Pakistan’s counterterrorism campaign would continue under the Azm-e-Istehkam vision. Officials said security forces and law-enforcement agencies would maintain operations against militant networks and their support infrastructure.
For now, the reported strikes add to a series of Pakistani military operations targeting militant groups inside Afghanistan and across Pakistan. The reported casualty figures remain claims from Pakistani authorities and security sources.
