Pakistan defeated India 3-0 in the men’s volleyball quarterfinal at the Asian Games 2026 on Thursday, securing a place in the semifinals.
The match took place at the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Gymnasium in Aichi, Japan. Pakistan won the three sets 25-19, 25-23 and 25-18 to end India’s campaign.
Pakistan Takes Control From the Start
Pakistan dominated the opening set and secured a 25-19 victory in 23 minutes. India responded with a stronger performance in the second set. The Indian side even held a three-point advantage at 19-16 before Pakistan fought back.
Pakistan eventually regained control and won the closely contested set 25-23 after 34 minutes.
The result put Pakistan one set away from reaching the semifinals.
Pakistan Seals Straight-Sets Victory
Pakistan maintained its momentum in the third set and quickly established a comfortable lead. The team eventually closed out the set 25-18 in 25 minutes, completing a straight-sets victory. The match lasted around 80 minutes, with Pakistan controlling the contest through its attacking play and defence.
Murad Khan Leads Pakistan
Murad Khan produced a standout performance for Pakistan, finishing with 19 points according to multiple reports.
Usman Faryad Ali also made a major contribution, while Mohammad Hamad added further points as Pakistan maintained pressure throughout the match.
Pakistan also held a clear advantage in attack points, recording 75 compared with India’s 60. The Green Shirts also led 5-4 in blocks.
India, meanwhile, had the advantage in service points and forced 20 Pakistani errors.
Pakistan Reaches Asian Games Semifinals
The victory sends Pakistan into the Asian Games men’s volleyball semifinals. It also marks Pakistan’s second consecutive Asian Games victory over India in men’s volleyball. Pakistan began its campaign with a 3-1 win over Kazakhstan before defeating Uzbekistan 3-0.
The team then suffered a 3-0 defeat against hosts Japan in its final pool match.
India entered the quarterfinal unbeaten after winning all three of its pool matches, including victories over Vietnam, Hong Kong China and Qatar.
India’s Volleyball Campaign Ends
The defeat ended India’s hopes of reaching the medal podium in men’s volleyball. India last won an Asian Games men’s volleyball medal in 1986, when it claimed bronze in Seoul. The team had also won silver in 1962 and bronze in 1958.
Pakistan will now prepare for the semifinal as its Asian Games campaign continues.
The victory keeps Pakistan’s medal hopes alive after a convincing quarterfinal performance against its regional rival.
