Pakistan’s kabaddi team started its Asian Games campaign with a commanding victory over Malaysia on Monday. Meanwhile, Asim Khan secured Pakistan’s first medal after losing his MMA semi-final in the -60kg category.
In Group B at Tokai Citizen Gymnasium, Pakistan defeated Malaysia 65-22. The national side led 38-11 at halftime before adding another 27 points in the second half.
Pakistan also recorded 10 all-out points during the match. The team will face Nepal on Tuesday after Nepal suffered a 59-48 defeat against Thailand.
Asim Khan Secures MMA Bronze Medal
Pakistan’s first medal came in Modern Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), where Asim Khan reached the semi-finals. He lost to Tajikistan’s Mirzobek Umarov but had already secured a bronze medal by reaching the last four.
Asim defeated Cambodia’s Sopanha Pheng in the quarter-final on Sunday. However, Umarov ended his campaign in the semi-final at Nagoya City Inae Sports Centre.
Meanwhile, swimmer Hamza Asif failed to qualify from the 50m freestyle heats. He finished second in his heat with 24.04 seconds, placing 30th overall.
Pakistan Faces Losses Across Multiple Events
Pakistan’s men’s table tennis team also suffered a 3-0 defeat against India. Mohammad Khan, Abbas Khan, and Taimur Khan all lost their respective singles matches.
The women’s doubles pair Fatima Khan and Aleena Khan also lost to North Korea. They suffered an 11-5, 11-1, 11-4 defeat in the event.
Pakistan also endured losses in mixed doubles soft tennis. Sabrina Khan and Rafae Bashir lost to Indonesia, while Kainaat Shallwani and Hamza Arain suffered defeats against South Korea and the Philippines.
In mixed relay triathlon, Pakistan’s quartet of Anisha, Noor Mohammed Mustaghis, Sana Arif, and Ali Hassan failed to finish.
