Visit comes amid heightened regional developments as Islamabad and Tehran maintain high-level diplomatic and security engagement
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is expected to arrive in Tehran within hours for meetings with senior Iranian officials, continuing high-level engagement between the neighbouring countries amid rapidly changing regional developments.
During the visit, Naqvi is expected to hold discussions with Iranian officials on issues of mutual interest. His trip also highlights continuing contacts between Islamabad and Tehran as both governments seek to maintain coordination on matters affecting their bilateral relationship and the wider region.
Pakistan and Iran share a lengthy border and have traditionally maintained cooperation on security, border management and other bilateral matters. Consequently, contacts between interior and security officials remain an important component of relations between the two countries.
Security Cooperation Expected to Feature in Talks
Although officials have not released a detailed agenda for the visit, security-related matters are expected to feature prominently in Naqvi’s discussions in Tehran.
Both countries have previously emphasised the importance of improving border security, combating cross-border crime and strengthening coordination between relevant authorities.
Moreover, regional security developments have increased the significance of direct communication between Islamabad and Tehran.
Visit Continues High-Level Pakistan-Iran Engagement
Naqvi’s visit comes as Pakistan continues diplomatic engagement with Iran while maintaining contacts with other regional governments.
Islamabad has repeatedly supported dialogue and diplomacy as mechanisms for addressing regional disputes and preventing further instability.
Meanwhile, Tehran has maintained regular communication with Pakistani officials on bilateral and regional matters.
The interior minister’s meetings are therefore expected to provide both sides with another opportunity to review security cooperation and discuss emerging regional challenges.
Further details regarding Naqvi’s meetings, including the Iranian officials participating in the talks and any agreements or understandings reached during the visit, are expected following his arrival in Tehran.
