Pakistan has installed more than 2.1 million smart meters across its electricity distribution companies, according to the Ministry of Energy. The ministry provided the figures in a written response submitted to the Senate. The data showed that a total of 2,125,296 smart meters have been installed nationwide.
LESCO recorded the highest number of installations among the country’s power distribution companies. It has installed 1,153,556 smart meters.
GEPCO ranked second with 348,135 installations. Meanwhile, MEPCO has installed 229,719 smart meters across its service area.
IESCO has installed 119,372 smart meters, while FESCO reported 111,948 installations. PESCO has also completed 60,685 smart meter installations.
K-Electric has installed 50,599 smart meters, according to the ministry’s figures.
Smart Meter Installations Vary Across DISCOs
The figures show significant differences in smart meter deployment among Pakistan’s power distribution companies. HESCO has installed 19,620 smart meters. SEPCO has reported 13,432 installations, while QESCO has installed 9,194 units.
HAZECO has installed 7,659 smart meters so far. Meanwhile, TESCO recorded the lowest number among the listed companies, with 1,377 installations.
The wide gap between companies highlights the varying pace of smart meter deployment across different regions.
Smart meters can support more accurate electricity measurement and reduce reliance on manual meter readings. Furthermore, digital monitoring can help distribution companies identify consumption patterns and improve billing processes.
The technology can also contribute to better monitoring of electricity usage and support efforts to address power sector inefficiencies.
Senate Receives Smart Meter Installation Figures
The Ministry of Energy provided the data while responding to a Senate question about smart meter installations nationwide. The figures offer an overview of Pakistan’s progress toward modernising its electricity distribution system. However, the varying installation rates indicate that deployment remains uneven across different distribution companies.
As smart meter adoption expands, distribution companies are expected to play a key role in improving digital monitoring and electricity billing.
