Federal Government Eases Commercial Timing Restrictions Nationwide
The federal government has officially relaxed restrictions on business operating hours across the country. The decision allows markets and several commercial sectors to remain open seven days a week until May 31, 2026. The move comes as part of efforts to provide greater flexibility to businesses and commercial activities.
According to an official notification issued by the Cabinet Division on May 18, 2026, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved the exemption from earlier closure timings. The new decision takes immediate effect and will remain applicable until the end of May.
Shops, Restaurants and Markets Receive Full Exemption
Under the revised policy, all shops, departmental stores, bazaars, markets, and shopping malls are exempted from previously imposed operating hour restrictions. The exemption also applies to bakeries, restaurants, grocery stores, and traditional food outlets.
The government has effectively removed time limitations that were earlier placed on commercial activities. Businesses can now operate more freely throughout the week without mandatory closure hours.
Officials say the decision is aimed at facilitating trade, improving market activity, and supporting business owners. Commercial sectors are expected to benefit from extended operating flexibility during the exemption period.
Cabinet Division Issues Official Notification
The official notification confirmed that the decision was approved by the prime minister and will be published in the Gazette of Pakistan Extraordinary. The directive was issued by the Cabinet Division and signed by Joint Secretary Waqas Ahmed Bajwa.
The relaxation of market timings is expected to increase commercial movement in major cities and business hubs. Traders and shopkeepers have welcomed the decision, saying it will help improve customer activity and sales volumes.
