Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed the worsening regional situation during a meeting in Manila. The talks took place on the sidelines of the ASEAN Regional Forum.
Both leaders stressed the need for peaceful solutions. Furthermore, they highlighted the importance of protecting regional stability through cooperation and communication.
Pakistan, Egypt Reject Violence Against Civilians
During a dinner meeting hosted by Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, the two officials exchanged views on recent developments in Palestine.
They rejected violence against civilians and criticized illegal settlement activities in the occupied West Bank. Additionally, both sides expressed their commitment to supporting peace and stability in the region.
The ministers also reviewed Pakistan-Egypt relations. They discussed ways to increase cooperation in trade, investment, economic development, and engagement at international forums.
Both countries agreed to strengthen bilateral ties. Moreover, they pledged closer coordination on matters of shared interest.
Leaders Highlight Risks to Global Stability
While discussing broader Middle East developments, Pakistan and Egypt called for immediate efforts toward de-escalation. They also emphasized the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries.
The two sides examined the wider impact of regional conflicts. They noted that instability could affect global maritime trade, energy security, and the international economy.
These concerns have become more important due to increasing tensions across the region. Therefore, both countries stressed the need for diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation.
The ministers also reviewed discussions from the latest Regional Four consultations held in Cairo. They reaffirmed their shared goal of promoting peace, cooperation, and stability.
Pakistan Expands Regional Engagement
Apart from his meeting with the Egyptian foreign minister, Ishaq Dar also held discussions with Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath and ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn during the forum.
In his meeting with Herath, Dar welcomed the positive progress in Pakistan-Sri Lanka relations. Both sides highlighted growing trade and economic cooperation.
They also agreed to enhance collaboration in connectivity, defense, and people-to-people exchanges. Additionally, the two leaders expressed hope that ongoing regional disputes would find solutions through dialogue.
During his meeting with the ASEAN Secretary-General, Dar discussed ways to strengthen Pakistan’s engagement with the regional bloc. The talks focused on trade, investment, connectivity, and closer links between people.
The ASEAN chief appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to encourage dialogue and reduce tensions during recent regional developments. Meanwhile, both sides agreed to continue cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
