Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has condemned a Houthi attack on a commercial vessel in the Red Sea. The attack killed three Pakistani nationals and reportedly injured another.
The incident targeted the Tanzania-flagged vessel Tihamah, resulting in deaths and injuries among its crew. An Indonesian national also lost his life during the attack.
Dar said Pakistan was working with relevant authorities to establish more details about the incident. He also expressed condolences to the families who lost loved ones.
Pakistan Seeks More Details About Red Sea Attack
Dar said he had received reports that a Pakistani national was injured during the attack. Pakistani authorities are now seeking further information about the incident and the condition of those affected.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families,” he said.
The foreign minister also strongly condemned the attack on the commercial vessel. “Pakistan strongly condemns the Houthi attack on a non-combatant commercial vessel.”
The attack has raised fresh concerns about the safety of commercial shipping in the Red Sea. The waterway remains an important route for international maritime trade.
Dar Warns of Threat to Maritime Security
Dar described attacks on commercial vessels as a serious threat to innocent people and international shipping. He said such incidents also raise wider concerns under international law.
“Such attacks endanger innocent lives, constitute a violation of international law, and pose a serious threat to freedom of navigation, maritime security, and the safety of commercial shipping in the Red Sea,” he said.
The latest incident has again highlighted the risks faced by civilian crews operating through the region. Commercial vessels continue to face security challenges as tensions remain high around key maritime routes.
For Pakistan, the deaths of three nationals have added a direct human cost to the ongoing security situation. The reported injury of another Pakistani has also increased concern among authorities and families.
Islamabad Contacts Saudi and Yemeni Authorities
Pakistan is coordinating with regional authorities to gather additional information about the attack. Dar said Islamabad has contacted Saudi authorities as well as Yemen’s internationally recognised government.
“We are in contact with the relevant Saudi authorities, as well as the internationally recognised government of Yemen, to ascertain further details of the incident and the circumstances surrounding it,” he added.
The consultations are expected to help Pakistani officials determine what happened during the attack. Authorities are also likely to assess the condition of the injured Pakistani national and obtain further information about the deceased.
Meanwhile, the incident has renewed concerns over maritime security in the Red Sea. Any further attacks on commercial vessels could place additional civilian lives at risk and disrupt an important international shipping route.
Pakistan is continuing to seek details through diplomatic channels as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the deadly attack.
