Pakistan is expected to face an intense heatwave during the Eid al Adha holidays as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast extremely high temperatures across several regions of the country.
According to the Met Office, the hot weather spell is likely to continue from May 25 to May 31, with temperatures expected to remain significantly above normal levels in many cities and provinces.
Authorities have advised citizens to take precautionary measures during Eid celebrations as the extreme weather conditions may increase health risks, especially for children, elderly individuals, and outdoor workers.
PMD Forecasts Extreme Temperatures Across Multiple Regions
The Pakistan Meteorological Department stated that temperatures in several parts of the country could remain five to seven degrees Celsius above seasonal averages during the upcoming heatwave period.
Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan are expected to experience the harshest conditions. In these regions, temperatures may rise between 47 and 50 degrees Celsius during peak daytime hours.
Upper Punjab, Islamabad, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are also likely to witness severe heat, with temperatures expected to range between 42 and 45 degrees Celsius.
According to the PMD, average maximum temperatures in some urban areas may remain between 35 and 38 degrees Celsius, while several locations could experience even higher readings depending on local weather conditions.
Meteorologists warned that prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures may lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke if proper precautions are not taken.
The department emphasized that the ongoing weather pattern reflects intensifying summer conditions across the region.
Citizens Advised to Avoid Sun Exposure During Eid Holidays
The Met Office has urged people to minimize unnecessary outdoor activities during the hottest hours of the day. Citizens have been advised to stay indoors whenever possible and increase water intake to avoid dehydration.
Health experts recommend:
- Drinking plenty of water throughout the day
- Avoiding direct sunlight during afternoon hours
- Wearing light-colored and loose clothing
- Limiting outdoor physical activities
- Paying special attention to children and elderly family members
Authorities also warned that animals being transported or sacrificed during Eid al Adha may require additional care due to the extreme temperatures.
Medical experts stated that prolonged heat exposure can quickly affect vulnerable individuals, particularly those with heart conditions, respiratory illnesses, or dehydration risks.
Emergency services and healthcare facilities are expected to remain alert during the heatwave period to handle weather-related health emergencies.
Eid al Adha Celebrations to Take Place Amid Harsh Summer Conditions
Pakistanโs Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has officially announced that Eid al Adha will be celebrated nationwide from Wednesday, May 27.
The combination of Eid activities and severe weather conditions may increase pressure on electricity demand, water supply systems, and public health services in major cities.
Experts believe the heatwave could also impact travel plans, livestock markets, and outdoor gatherings associated with Eid celebrations.
Weather analysts say climate-related temperature extremes are becoming more frequent in South Asia, with heatwaves occurring earlier and lasting longer during summer months.
The PMD stated that it will continue monitoring weather conditions and issue updates if the intensity of the heatwave changes.
Citizens have been encouraged to stay informed through official weather advisories and follow safety guidelines throughout the Eid holidays.
