Westerly Wave to Bring Rain From June 16
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast a five-day rain spell across several parts of the country.
According to the Met Office, a westerly wave is likely to enter the upper parts of Pakistan from June 16. The system is expected to continue until June 20.
Moist currents from the Arabian Sea are also likely to move into upper and central regions from June 16.
Under this weather system, rain, windstorms, dust storms and thunderstorms are expected in several provinces. Some areas may also receive isolated heavy rainfall and hailstorms.
The PMD said Punjab and Islamabad are likely to experience scattered rain and thunderstorms from June 16 to June 20, with occasional gaps.
Rain is expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Multan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan and several other districts.
Kashmir, GB, KP, Balochistan and Sindh Also in Forecast
Kashmir is expected to receive scattered rain, wind and thunderstorms from June 16 to June 22. Affected areas may include Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Rawalakot, Poonch, Bagh, Kotli, Mirpur and nearby districts.
Gilgit-Baltistan is likely to see rain from June 18 to June 22. The forecast includes Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Astore, Ghizer, Ghanche and Shigar.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain, dust storms and thunderstorms are expected from June 16 to June 20. Areas including Chitral, Swat, Dir, Kohistan, Malakand, Peshawar, Mardan, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan may be affected.
Northern and northeastern Balochistan may also receive rain and thunderstorms during the same period. The forecast includes Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Harnai, Sibbi, Barkhan, Khuzdar and Dera Bugti.
In Sindh, dust storms and rain are expected in upper districts, including Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Khairpur, Dadu, Ghotki and Shikarpur. Karachi and surrounding areas may experience dust storms with light rain.
PMD Warns of Damage, Landslides and Urban Flooding
The Met Office warned that strong winds, hailstorms and lightning may damage weak structures.
Solar panels, electric poles, billboards and temporary structures could be affected during the forecast period.
Landslides may occur in vulnerable areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir from June 16 to June 21.
Heavy rain may also cause urban flooding in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Lahore and Faisalabad.
Farmers have been advised to manage crops according to the changing weather conditions.
Tourists and travellers have also been urged to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during the rain spell.
