A Pakistan Army officer was martyred during security operations in Balochistan, while security forces killed four suspected militants in Kalat district, according to the military’s media wing. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said forces carried out operations in several areas following reports of militant hideouts. The locations included Jattakabad in Kalat and Shadi Kaur and Pasni in Gwadar.
Four Suspected Militants Killed in Kalat
On October 18, security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation in Jattakabad. According to the ISPR, troops killed four suspected militants during the operation.
They also recovered a large quantity of weapons and ammunition from the area. Meanwhile, security forces continued clearance operations in other parts of Balochistan.
Major Wajahat Waheed Martyred in Gwadar
During an operation in the Shadi Kaur area of Pasni, an improvised explosive device struck the lead security team. The blast martyred 34-year-old Major Wajahat Waheed, a resident of Lahore. The ISPR said security forces would continue searching the area for other suspected militants.
Moreover, the military reiterated its commitment to counterterrorism operations under the Azm-e-Istehkam initiative. The campaign follows the vision approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan.
Balochistan Sees Intensified Security Operations
The latest operations follow several recent counterterrorism actions across Balochistan. A day earlier, security forces killed eight suspected militants in operations across Quetta, Nushki and Khuzdar, according to the ISPR.
On the night of October 12 and 13, troops also raided a suspected hideout in Washuk and killed five militants.
In addition, provincial officials recently reported several arrests linked to banned militant organisations. Authorities said investigations and legal proceedings were underway.
Security challenges remain a major concern in Balochistan. Data compiled by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies showed that reported terrorist attacks rose from 83 in July to 89 in August.
The ISPR said security forces would continue operations to locate militant networks and prevent further attacks. However, the campaign also highlights the ongoing risks faced by personnel deployed in the province.
