ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has invited bids for the construction of a new Air Traffic Control (ATC) Tower at Skardu International Airport under its ongoing infrastructure development programme.
The authority also issued electronic tenders for several additional projects at the airport. It encouraged experienced and financially qualified firms to participate in the bidding process under the prescribed procurement procedures.
According to the PAA, the planned upgrades aim to strengthen airport infrastructure while improving operational efficiency and safety. Contractors meeting the eligibility criteria can submit proposals for the announced development projects.
Major infrastructure upgrades planned
The development plan includes constructing a modern Air Traffic Control Tower and a new fire station at Skardu International Airport. Authorities said these facilities will support the airport’s expanding operational requirements.
Moreover, the project includes additional supporting infrastructure and related facilities. These improvements are expected to enhance air traffic management, emergency response capabilities, and overall aviation safety standards.
The PAA said the development reflects its continued efforts to modernise airport infrastructure and improve passenger and flight operations across the country.
PIA restored Dubai-Skardu flights earlier
Earlier in 2025, Pakistan International Airlines resumed direct flights between Dubai and Skardu to strengthen tourism and connectivity.
To mark the occasion, officials held a cake-cutting ceremony at the PIA office in Dubai. Pakistan’s Consul General, Hussain Muhammad, attended the event alongside members of a foreign tourist group travelling on the inaugural flight.
Furthermore, Regional Manager Sarmad Aizaz and his team welcomed the guests and highlighted the importance of the route. The airline expects the direct service to boost tourism and strengthen people-to-people links between Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.
