Islamabad Traffic Police has launched a fully paperless driving licence system, marking a major shift toward digital governance. The initiative aims to simplify licensing procedures and improve service delivery for citizens.
Inspector General of Police Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi officially inaugurated the system. The launch reflects ongoing efforts to modernize traffic policing services across the capital.
Launch Event and Officialsโ Participation
Chief Traffic Officer Muhammad Sarfraz Virk and other senior traffic officials attended the inauguration ceremony. During the event, the Inspector General reviewed newly established paperless counters.
He also issued instructions to ensure smooth implementation of the digital system. Authorities emphasized that the transition would improve efficiency and reduce public inconvenience.
Major Shift Toward Digital Licensing
The new system removes the need for physical documentation during the licensing process. Previously, applicants had to submit medical forms, photographs, and multiple copies of documents.
However, under the updated process, all these requirements have been eliminated. Citizens will no longer need to carry printed documents or photographs.
Instead, the entire procedure has been digitized from medical examination to licence issuance. As a result, the process has become faster and more convenient.
Only CNIC Required for Licence Application
Under the new system, citizens will only need to present their Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC). This single document is now sufficient to complete the driving licence process.
Therefore, applicants can avoid lengthy paperwork and repeated visits to licensing centres. This change significantly reduces processing time and administrative delays.
Focus on Public Convenience and Efficiency
The initiative has been introduced to facilitate citizens and save their valuable time. Authorities believe the system will improve transparency and reduce manual errors.
In addition, the paperless approach is expected to streamline operations within Islamabad Traffic Police. It also supports broader digital transformation goals within public services.
Digital Expansion Plans Ahead
Officials confirmed that further upgrades are planned for the licensing system. The fee collection process will also be digitalised in the next phase.
Consequently, the entire licensing structure is expected to become fully automated. This will further enhance convenience for applicants across Islamabad.
Leadership Appreciation for Project Team
The Inspector General appreciated Chief Traffic Officer Muhammad Sarfraz Virk and his team for completing the project in a short time. He acknowledged their efforts in implementing the system efficiently.
Their work has been described as a key step toward modernising public service delivery in the capital.
