Islamabad is moving closer to launching a fully integrated Rescue 1122 service after Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi directed authorities to accelerate work on the long-awaited emergency response system.
The directive came during a meeting attended by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) chairman. The session reviewed the progress of key development projects across the federal capital.
During the meeting, Mohsin Naqvi expressed dissatisfaction over delays in establishing a unified emergency response network. Consequently, he instructed the CDA to complete all legal formalities without delay and immediately begin work on four new emergency service centres.
Rescue 1122 to Bring Emergency Services Under One Platform
Under the proposed Capital Emergency Services system, ambulance, fire brigade, and water rescue services will operate through Rescue 1122.
As a result, residents will be able to request emergency assistance through a single helpline instead of contacting multiple agencies. Officials believe the integrated system will improve coordination and reduce emergency response times.
Moreover, authorities plan to establish a unified control room within the CDA. The facility will monitor emergency vehicles in real time through GPS technology, allowing quicker dispatch and better resource management.
Project Revives Earlier Government Directive
The initiative is not entirely new. Mohsin Naqvi had first directed authorities to integrate emergency services during a meeting held in May 2024.
However, progress has remained slower than expected. Therefore, the latest meeting focused on removing legal hurdles and speeding up implementation so the system can become fully operational.
Officials expect the integrated Rescue 1122 service to strengthen emergency preparedness across Islamabad by bringing all major rescue operations under one coordinated framework.
New Underpasses Approved to Improve Traffic Flow
Besides emergency services, the meeting also approved two new underpass projects aimed at easing traffic congestion in the capital.
One underpass will be constructed at Kashmir Chowk, while another will be built near Faisal Mosque. According to officials, work on both projects is expected to begin next month.
The projects are intended to improve traffic movement at two of Islamabad’s busiest intersections and reduce travel delays for commuters.
CDA Asked to Develop Long-Term Revenue Model
The meeting also discussed proposals to increase the CDA’s financial resources.
Mohsin Naqvi directed the authority to prepare a long-term revenue model designed to achieve financial self-sufficiency. He stressed that stable finances are essential for sustaining future development projects in the federal capital.
In addition, he instructed the CDA to complete the Expressway Service Road Project within the stipulated timeframe.
During the briefing, CDA officials updated the meeting on the progress of various development initiatives currently underway in Islamabad. The projects form part of the government’s broader plan to improve public infrastructure, strengthen civic services, and enhance emergency response capabilities across the capital.
