ISLAMABAD: National Security Adviser (NSA) Dr Moeed Yusuf said that Pakistan’s foreign policy was not free from the influence of the United States.
He stated this while expressing his views in a TV talk show Jirga of Geo TV.
Dr Moeed said, “It is still not free from the US influence and I doubt that there is any country which is free from it.”
He further said Pakistan does not have adequate financial independence the country does not have capital to meet the growing requirements of the population.
“When we cannot meet our demands, we have to rely on foreign loans. When you get loans, your economic sovereignty is compromised,” Dr Moeed candidly admitted.
He also said that seeking loans from the IMF means a compromise on sovereignty of Pakistan.
Dr Moeed said when a country is dependent on foreign lenders, it cannot provide resources for proper human welfare or traditional security — armed forces and internal security.
Meanwhile, NSA also stated that the implementation of the country’s first-ever National Security Policy (NSP) was essential with a clearly devised framework.
He said that there was a comprehensive implementation framework for state institutions in the document of the policy. Yusuf said economic and human security are at the NSP’s core.
