Actor Noreen Gulwani has shared her views on women’s financial independence, relationships and personal growth. She believes earning power should bring confidence, not arrogance.
In a recent interview, Gulwani discussed changing gender dynamics and explained that both men and women need to understand their responsibilities.
She said some women may develop a stronger attitude after becoming financially independent because of years of social restrictions.
Financial Independence Should Bring Confidence
Gulwani advised women to remain humble after achieving financial stability.
“Women should not be egotistical just because they are earning. It does happen because we have been so suppressed that, once we start earning, we feel that nobody can tell us anything, whether they are right or wrong,” she said.
However, she also highlighted the importance of men treating women with kindness and respect.
“If you treat women well, it will not reach that stage. We just want someone to speak to us kindly, not suppress us,” she added.
According to Gulwani, healthy relationships require understanding from both sides. She believes respect and communication can prevent conflicts between couples.
Actor Shares Thoughts on Marriage and Self-Discovery
Gulwani revealed that she has not married because she is waiting for the right partner.
“I do meet people and try to understand their mindset, but I have not found the right person yet. That is why I have not gotten married,” she said.
She also encouraged young people to focus on personal growth during their 20s.
“I think your 20s are about discovering yourself. Society gives you a mould: work, get married, and have children. But as human beings, we have many more dimensions to explore. In your 20s, you are still trying to understand who you are,” she said.
Moreover, Gulwani shared her dream of raising children in a peaceful environment away from busy city life.
She said she wants a lifestyle connected with nature and hopes to find a partner who shares similar values.
Theatre Remains Her Biggest Creative Passion
Reflecting on her career journey, Gulwani said she initially studied journalism and broadcasting abroad.
“I studied journalism and broadcasting abroad. It was very sensational. At first, I found it difficult because you have to be on your toes every day, and I realised it did not suit my personality. I wanted to study writing, but I could not find a degree that focused on it,” she said.
Later, she discovered her passion for theatre and described it as a challenging but rewarding art form.
She explained that stage performances require quick thinking and improvisation.
“I had to burn myself on a stove, but I could not get it to light, so I used a knife instead. Then my co-star, who was supposed to apply toothpaste to the burn, improvised by wrapping my hand in tissue. You cannot stop and think on stage. Everything happens in minutes,” she said.
Gulwani Avoids Online Controversies
The actor also discussed social media debates and said she prefers staying away from unnecessary arguments.
“If someone says something, it does not mean you have to reply. I am very neutral. I do not care,” she said.
While discussing singer Falak Shabir’s comments about women’s clothing, Gulwani said she disagreed with his views but did not want to engage in public criticism.
“He did not attack anyone personally. I do not agree with him. I wear Western clothes too, and I want the same freedom as everyone else, but I do not think replying changes anything,” she said.
Gulwani concluded by encouraging people to take breaks, contribute positively and choose careers that bring satisfaction. She also expressed hope of returning to theatre productions in the future.
Known for her performances in dramas including Bakhtawar, Pyari Mona, Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri and Safar Tamam Howa, Gulwani continues to explore different forms of acting.
