Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have signed an agreement waiving visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and official or special passports.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan signed the agreement in New York. The signing took place on the sidelines of the 2026 United Nations General Assembly session.
Visa Waiver Agreement Signed in New York
Dar announced the agreement, saying it would make high-level engagement and institutional exchanges between the two countries easier.
Under the arrangement, Pakistani citizens holding diplomatic or official passports can travel to Saudi Arabia without obtaining a visa. The agreement also covers Saudi citizens holding diplomatic and official or special passports travelling to Pakistan.
The new facility does not apply to ordinary passport holders.
Dar said the agreement would also support cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia in areas of mutual interest. He described it as another step in strengthening the countries’ strategic partnership.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia Expand Economic Ties
The agreement comes as Islamabad and Riyadh continue efforts to expand economic cooperation.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently said Pakistan wanted to develop its economic relationship with Saudi Arabia into a strategic economic partnership.
A Saudi business delegation has also explored investment opportunities in several sectors. These include agriculture, infrastructure, energy, ports, real estate and information technology.
Security Cooperation Also Deepens
The two countries have also expanded cooperation in defence and regional security.
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye signed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement in August. The agreement created a framework for greater security cooperation among the three countries.
The latest visa arrangement is expected to make official travel easier for diplomats and government representatives. It could also facilitate more frequent institutional contacts between Islamabad and Riyadh.
