ISLAMABAD: Millions of protected electricity consumers in Pakistan have not yet completed the mandatory QR code verification required to continue receiving government electricity subsidies. Power distribution companies are urging eligible consumers to register immediately to avoid possible suspension of subsidy benefits.
K-Electric (KE) has issued a warning through a message printed on monthly electricity bills. The utility advised consumers using up to 200 electricity units per month to complete the verification process without delay.
The message states:
“The Government of Pakistan provides subsidies on electricity bills. To verify your eligibility for this subsidy, scan the QR code and complete your registration. Otherwise, your subsidy may be suspended.”
Power Companies Urge Consumers to Register
Similarly, the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) has asked all eligible consumers to scan the QR code printed on their electricity bills and verify their information as soon as possible.
According to FESCO, the verification campaign aims to ensure that government subsidies reach only eligible consumers. Moreover, the initiative seeks to prevent fraudulent claims and misuse of subsidized electricity tariffs.
Officials said nearly 3.95 million consumers qualify for the protected category under the subsidy program. However, only 2.31 million consumers have completed the registration process so far.
Meanwhile, around 1.84 million households still need to verify their details despite receiving repeated reminders.
Unverified Consumers May Lose Subsidy Benefits
Officials warned that consumers who fail to complete the mandatory verification could face difficulties receiving future electricity subsidies. Therefore, eligible households should complete the process as early as possible.
The QR code verification system is designed to improve transparency and ensure that public funds reach genuine beneficiaries. In addition, it helps authorities identify and prevent fraudulent subsidy claims.
Consumers Warned Against Online Scams
FESCO also advised consumers to remain cautious while completing the registration process. Officials warned people not to share personal information or electricity account details through unofficial websites, suspicious links, or unverified online platforms.
Instead, consumers should complete the verification only by scanning the QR code printed on their official electricity bills. Following the official process can help protect users from cyber fraud while ensuring uninterrupted access to government electricity subsidies.
